10 Fun Pricing Strategies

Customers love guessing games. Here are some fun ways that you can make the customer experience more exciting for the customers of your small business.

1) Charge for everything. If you are a coffee shop, have separate charges for the coffee, coffee cup, coffee cup lid, stirrer, napkin, sugar, sugar wrapper disposal, electricity, cash register electricity usage, and receipt printing fee.

2) Have FREE promotions that make no sense. Try something like, “Buy 14 apples get a bucket of tar for free.”

3) Create once in a lifetime offers - everyday. Your customers will be so excited about the fact that you are providing these fantastic opportunities everyday, that they just might buy several items over and over again.

4) Create new and adequate items, instead of new and improved items. Change the label, style, or color of packaging of your product. On the front put a huge sticker that says “NEW Packaging! Exactly the same product inside!”

5) Create prices that end in zero. Instead of $9.99, mark the item as $10. Wow, that will really confuse people.

6) Sell items in odd units. Instead of a six-pack, sell a seven-pack. Instead of a dozen eggs, sell thirteen eggs.

7) Never put a price tag on anything, just barcodes. Change the barcode prices randomly throughout the day so that people never know what they will pay. This makes the process more fun.

8) Or, put price tags on everything with industrial strength glue. Imagine the hours of enjoyment that the customer will have using a razor blade and tweezers to peel off that price tag sticker.

9) Just add extra costs for nothing. If you are a supermarket, charge an extra two dollars and call it “shopping cart rental” fee.

10) Sell the item for FREE, but with a surcharge. For example, if you have a fast food restaurant, you can give away the food, but charge an expedited food processing fee.

Have fun with these creative pricing strategies. This will provide hours of fun and enjoyment to your customers.
