Dominican Republic 'Personal Injury Hotspot'

In recent years, the Dominican Republic has emerged as the holiday destination for British tourists most likely to end in disaster. As a result, many have been pursuing compensation claims for their holiday from hell.

Tourists have suffered personal injuries due to unsafe equipment, food poisoning due to poor hygiene and all sorts of other anguish as their holiday turned out to be rather different from what they were expecting.

Andrew Morton, a travel law solicitor, says that despite the reputation the Dominican Republic is fast building up, people will continue to flock there for their holidays. And as a result, the complaints will continue to pour in.

“The last three years have seen the same types of complaint flood in from guests at a range of, normally, all-inclusive type hotels in the Dominican Republic. Poor hygiene standards, inadequate food preparation and shabby treatment by tour operators all figure prominently in the list of complaints we receive from clients about the same hotels year in year out. It really is astounding that the tour operators do not seem to address the issues but instead seem to hope the problems will miraculously disappear.”

He advises holiday makers who find themselves in these types of situations to collect as much evidence as possible in order to secure compensation upon their return. Photographs of dirty hotel rooms, receipts for medical attention and copies of complaints made to tour reps will all serve as strong evidence of the holiday disaster.

If your holiday made you ill, make sure that as well we seeing a doctor while on holiday, make sure that you visit your doctor upon your return. This will ensure peace of mind that there are no lasting effects from your holiday illness, but also will provide sturdy evidence for any compensation claim you chose to pursue.
