Let me ask you a question:
Who do you trust more than anyone?
I know that the person I trust more than anyone is me! Who better than yourself, right. The fact of the matter is that generating your own leads is the BEST way to get highly qualified and targeted leads from a trusted source.
For a lot people that is obvious; however, for the majority of network marketers this thought has never crossed their minds.
Now, I'm not talking about generating leads by handing out business cards to complete strangers, making a list of your friends and family, or any of the traditional methods your upline is teaching you.
I'm talking about generating your own leads by learning how to ATTRACT prospects to you. This is done by learning and applying sound marketing principles. Understanding this concept will save you a lot of time and money.
Network marketing leads can be broken down into 3 types of quality:
Type 1 Leads:
These leads are created by using the methods I described above; old school methods that can only hinder you in the long run. These techniques project a message that it is ok to disrupt the lives of others by pitching them on your product or business opportunity, and hope that they receive your message gracefully. That may be a little harsh, but it is only the truth. I have been there, done that and now I look back and still can't believe I subjected myself to such desperate behavior.
So in most cases these types of leads will always be at the bottom of the scale in terms of quality. They also in no way help your reputation as a business owner. I have never seen any successful business owner using these forms of customer gathering.
Type 2 Leads:
These leads are the most recognized way of getting leads and that is to purchase them. These leads are generated by lead generation companies or lead brokers and are listed as mlm leads, opportunity seeker leads, or home business leads. Here is how they are generated:
- phone interviewed
- infomercial
- radio response
- surveyed
- opt-in
- direct mail, etc.
Obviously the people who are successful with this would depend on the skill level of each individual working these leads. I personally have researched this topic and statistically the phone interviewed and surveyed leads had the highest response rate. But like I said that would vary depending on skill level.
With that being said, building a business this way is a step up from type 1 leads, because you will be an actual home-based business owner. What I am saying is that you will be working out of your home on the phone. You don't need to shave or get dressed and you can build a successful business this way. No more trying to start up a conversation with someone in the supermarket just so you can get their phone number.
The biggest challenge with purchased leads is finding a source that generates the highest quality leads for a reasonable price. Secondly, you must have the skills to convert people into buyers so that you are making money and not losing it. The problem is that the majority of people buy leads and never make more than what they spent on the leads to begin with. This puts more stress on the individual to convert more people with the next set of leads and it can quickly get out of hand.
Type 3 Leads:
I have saved the best for last: Self-Generated leads! These are leads that you will create by attracting your target market to you. As in the other lead generation methods, there are countless ways of doing this.
I personally recommend generating your own leads by using some of the FREE methods available to the public online. These methods allow you to make money on every single lead you generate instead of paying for them! This works when a prospect purchases an information based product about the industry, pre-qualifying themselves before ever speaking to them. This way you will know it is a good lead because they have invested a little bit of money on their education. It also tells you that this is a person actively looking at the industry and has been drawn to you through the marketing system you have set up.
This method of lead generation is an extremely effective way of prospecting; allowing you the privilege of investing your time with only the most serious leads(the ones you just got paid to speak with). No more convincing or spending money that you might not have on anonymous leads.
Which method sounds the best to you?
All it takes to learn how to attract people to you is proper education and then implementing your education into a predictable marketing system that you create. It is easier then it sounds.
Personally, I can never picture myself ever prospecting with the old school methods again. They are just so time costly and ineffective that there is no point!
So, educate yourself and create a marketing system that will pay you for your lead generation efforts!
